Mobile Communication in Ukraine Will Not Be Turned Off During Air Alerts

Information regarding a possible shutdown of mobile communication in Ukraine during air alerts is not true. Such rumors were actively spread on social media and some media outlets at the end of June 2025, but they have no basis.

Official Position on Mobile Communication During Attacks

Alexander Fedienko, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Digital Transformation and a member of the “Servant of the People” party, refuted these reports. According to him, mobile communication in Ukraine will not be turned off either on June 9 or on any other day, regardless of the security situation.

“I want to once again inform that mobile communication will not be turned off on Monday, Tuesday, a week from now, or two weeks from now,” he said.

The rumors concerned the alleged launch of a special system called “Trident” by Ukrainian programmers and mobile operators, which could limit access to communication during air alerts. However, this information has not been confirmed by official sources.

Response to Disinformation and Parallels with Actions of the Russian Federation

Alexander Fedienko urged Ukrainians not to fall for the provocations of “advertising tricks” and fraudulent schemes that spread false information about the operations of mobile operators during air alerts. He emphasized that such statements are part of an information war and can be used to destabilize the situation in the country.

In comparison, in the Russian Federation, ahead of May 9, there were targeted disruptions of mobile communication and the internet, justified by “security”. The Center for Counteracting Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine emphasizes that this practice has become widespread in many regions of the Russian Federation, serving as a means to maximally limit the population’s access to alternative sources of information and to strengthen control over the information space.

The CPD emphasizes that shutting down communication is one of the tools for “tightening the screws” to restrict freedom of speech and access to independent information in Russia.
