Record Import Volumes from Europe

According to the Ministry of Energy, the volume of imported electricity in January reached 41.987 GWh per day. This figure is the highest recorded since the beginning of electricity supplies from other countries. The significant electricity imports were made possible by increased network capacity amid heightened demand caused by low temperatures and damage to domestic energy infrastructure.

“41.987 GWh is the record daily volume of electricity imports that came to Ukraine in January. This helped to maintain the system and reduce the deficit in the face of Russian attacks and severe frosts,” it stated.

The Importance of Imports for the Energy System

Electricity supplies from European countries have stabilized Ukraine’s energy system, reduced the power deficit, and avoided large-scale power outages for consumers. The Ministry of Energy emphasized that this support was made possible by establishing a new power import limit from EU countries of 2450 MW. This is an absolute record since Ukraine joined the European energy network ENTSO-E.

Thanks to the increase in imports, it was possible to reduce the number of forced power outages and ensure the reliability of energy supply even under challenging weather and military conditions.
