Payments funded by tariffs: details of the initiative

Donald Trump emphasized that the funding source will be the money obtained from the implementation of tariffs on imported goods. The president highlighted that the program will not cover high-income citizens, and the payments will be targeted, amounting to at least $2000 per person.

“Record investments in the U.S., factories and plants are being built everywhere. Everyone will receive a dividend of at least $2000 per person (excluding high-income individuals!)” the president wrote.

He also criticized opponents of the tariff policy, noting that the U.S. is currently the “richest and most respected country in the world,” with nearly zero inflation and record stock market performance. According to Trump, government revenue from tariffs has already reached trillions of dollars, which will allow for a reduction in the national debt, currently at $37 trillion, in the near future.

Changes in U.S. tariff policy and their consequences

In early April, the U.S. president signed an order imposing import tariffs of 10% and above on all goods entering the United States. Additional reciprocal tariffs were introduced for countries with the largest trade deficits with the U.S. Subsequently, on April 9, Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs with all countries except China. Then, on August 1, a new order was signed to raise tariffs to 41% for dozens of countries, including members of the European Union.

As a result of these decisions, international corporations have suffered significant losses, estimating their losses at over $35 billion. At the same time, the U.S. government expects to collect about $50 billion monthly from tariff revenues.
