U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested the possibility of lowering import tariffs that were imposed on April 2 against nearly all countries. However, for the American administration to lift the trade restrictions, each country must offer a truly impressive proposal in exchange.

This information was shared by Trump on April 3 during a press conference aboard Air Force One. He emphasized the necessity of imposing tariffs on most imported goods, even amid stock market instability, and expressed confidence that the economic situation would stabilize soon.
“Tariffs give us great negotiating power,” the head of the White House noted.
Trump also mentioned that after the new tariffs were introduced, calls came to the White House from representatives of “every country.” He is willing to consider easing trade policies if countries present genuinely beneficial proposals.
“If someone says, ‘We will give you something phenomenal.’ And provided that they really offer us something good,” he said.
Additionally, the U.S. president warned of the possibility of introducing new tariffs. He hinted that tariffs on chips and pharmaceutical products may be implemented in the near future.
“Very soon there will be chips. I think pharmaceuticals will reach a level that we really haven’t seen before. Right now we are considering pharmaceuticals as a separate category. We will announce this soon,” Trump emphasized.
Furthermore, Trump reiterated his intention to offer tariff exemptions to China if the Chinese authorities agree to sell the American division of the video platform TikTok. The deadline for the deal is April 5, but the U.S. president has the option to extend it. According to Trump, the U.S. and China are “very close to a deal.”
“I think China could call and say, ‘We are upset about the tariffs.’ Maybe they want to get something a little in return for approving the TikTok deal,” Trump noted.
At the same time, he reminded that despite the imposition of tariffs, interest rates in the U.S. are decreasing, and prices for eggs and gasoline have started to drop.
