Trump cancels Kushner and Witkoff’s diplomatic mission to Pakistan for negotiations with Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to cancel the planned trip of his representatives — Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff — to Pakistan, where negotiations with the Iranian side were to take place regarding a possible diplomatic resolution of the conflict.

Reasons for canceling the mission

As Trump explained in a comment to Fox News journalist Aisha Hasnie, his envoys will no longer be traveling to Pakistan to discuss the situation with Iran. The president emphasized that he sees no point in long flights for meetings that do not yield significant results.

“I told my people: ‘No, you are not going to make an 18-hour flight to go there. We have all the cards in hand. They can call us whenever they want, but you will no longer be making 18-hour flights to sit and talk about nothing'”

In a conversation with Axios journalist Barak Ravid, Trump further emphasized that modern communication capabilities allow for negotiations to be conducted remotely, and in-person visits are not necessary. The U.S. president also dismissed suggestions of a possible resumption of war, stating that such a scenario is not even being discussed at this time.

Official confirmation and developments

Later, Donald Trump confirmed his decision in a message on his own platform, Truth Social, emphasizing the final cancellation of his representatives’ visit to Islamabad.

It is worth noting that earlier, the U.S. had already considered options for a military response in case the ceasefire in the Strait of Hormuz was violated. Washington is preparing various response scenarios for a possible escalation of the situation in the region, including not ruling out strikes on Iran if necessary to protect American interests and stability in the region.
