US President Donald Trump has supported a bipartisan bill that aims to further strengthen sanctions against the Russian Federation. This was announced by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the authors of the document.

Strengthening sanctions and their impact on international partners

The document, which received the “green light” from Trump after a meeting with senators, was developed in collaboration with Senator Richard Blumenthal and other lawmakers. According to Graham, the new bill will allow the US to increase pressure on countries that continue to purchase Russian oil, which funds Putin’s aggressive actions. This move is expected to serve as a significant lever of influence on countries like China, India, and Brazil, motivating them to abandon purchases of Russian oil.

“After today’s very productive meeting with President Trump, during which we discussed a number of issues, he gave the green light to the bipartisan sanctions bill against Russia that I have been working on for several months along with Senator Blumenthal and many others. This is a very timely decision, as Ukraine is making concessions for peace, while Putin is merely talking, continuing to kill innocent people,” he emphasized in his post on social media platform X.

Expectations for voting in the US Congress

Senator Graham stressed that the bill will not only strengthen the US position on sanctions against Russia but will also provide the president with additional tools to influence global energy markets. He also expressed confidence in the swift consideration of the document and hopes for support from both parties during the vote, which could take place as early as next week.
