Installation of Scanners at Border Stations
The initial placement of the equipment is planned for the railway checkpoints “Yahodyn” and “Mostyska-2,” which are major transport hubs between Ukraine and Poland. The implementation of these systems will allow for fully automated cargo inspection in a 24/7 mode and enable bi-directional scanning without interrupting traffic.
Currently, project and construction work necessary for the installation of the scanners is underway. According to the plan, the equipment is expected to be put into operation in the second half of 2026.
Advantages of New Technologies for Customs Control
The scanning systems belong to non-intrusive control methods, allowing for the inspection of cars without physical interference with the cargo and without halting logistics processes. Thanks to the high resolution of the images, these devices enable the rapid detection of hidden contraband, including within the structural components of the cars. This significantly enhances the effectiveness of combating smuggling, including the illegal movement of tobacco products, drugs, and other prohibited items.
“The high resolution of the images allows for the detection of hidden contraband, particularly in the structural elements of the cars, which significantly strengthens the capabilities to combat smuggling, including tobacco products, narcotics, and other prohibited items,” the statement reads.
Additionally, specialized software automatically selects cars for inspection, ensuring that scanning does not involve passenger cars and locomotives, but only freight trains. This increases the efficiency and safety of customs control in Ukraine’s railway transport.
