The Verkhovna Rada Considers Introducing a Tax to Support the Military

У ВР пропонують новий податок з доходу українців

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is discussing the possibility of introducing a new income tax for Ukrainians at a rate of 2–3%, with the funds directed to deposits for military personnel. The initiative was proposed by MP Roman Kostenko, the secretary of the committee on national security and defense.

Mechanism for Supporting Defenders

According to Roman Kostenko, the idea is to open special deposit accounts for all soldiers, into which funds collected from the new tax will be deposited. The military will be able to use this money after the war for purposes such as paying off loans, funding their children’s education, or addressing other important needs.

“We will open deposits for all soldiers that they can use after the war,” Kostenko said.

In this way, Roman Kostenko proposes to create a mechanism of social responsibility and gratitude towards those who defend the state at the front. In his opinion, this will provide real financial support to military personnel after the end of hostilities.

Details of the Initiative and Social Duty

The MP notes that if the initiative is approved, the tax will be paid by the entire working population—approximately 40 million citizens. The collected funds will be distributed among about one million individuals who participated in combat operations. Thus, society will be able to fulfill its duty and express gratitude to those who risked their lives to protect Ukraine.

At the same time, Kostenko emphasizes that such an approach will not only ensure decent financial support for the military but will also promote increased solidarity and responsibility among the citizens of the country.
