One of the units of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant has successfully returned to operation after completing scheduled maintenance. As of April 28, 2026, the unit is reconnected to the country’s energy system. Following the reconnection, power ramp-up is ongoing, which will allow for an increase in electricity production.

Faster Completion of Repairs and Additional Electricity Supply
According to NAEC “Energoatom,” this is the first unit that has been repaired as part of this year’s maintenance campaign. Importantly, the work was completed four days ahead of schedule. As a result, over 70 million kilowatt-hours of electricity will be additionally supplied to the energy grid.
“On April 28, 2026, after scheduled preventive maintenance, specialists from Energoatom successfully connected the Khmelnytskyi NPP unit to the energy grid. Power ramp-up is ongoing. This is the first repaired unit within the 2026 maintenance campaign,” the statement reads.
Plans for the Maintenance Campaign and Preparation for Winter
The planned maintenance campaign at Ukrainian nuclear power plants started in April and will last until October. According to Acting Chairman of the Board of Energoatom Pavlo Kovtoniuk, the maintenance schedule has been designed to avoid electricity shortages in the grid and ensure stable operation during the autumn-winter period. The main goal is to prepare all nine units located in the territory controlled by Ukraine for stable operation during the peak season.
Additionally, in the first quarter of 2026, NAEC “Energoatom” allocated over 78 billion hryvnias to support the accessibility of electricity for the population through the mechanism of imposed special obligations.
