The front line simplifies the use of narcotic analgesics for medics

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has made a decision that fundamentally changes the procedure for the use of narcotic analgesics for combat medics on the front line. The innovation aims to simplify the accounting and reporting procedures regarding the use of such drugs in the combat zone.

Simplified protocols for emergency assistance

From now on, complex civilian reporting rules regarding narcotic analgesics have been replaced with simplified military protocols. This allows medics to provide assistance to the wounded more quickly and without the risk of legal issues. The new norm will be in effect during the state of martial law and for an additional 60 days after its conclusion.

“The main change is the complete abandonment of large civilian forms of medical reporting for units working directly on the front line. The Cabinet has allowed the use of primary documentation forms approved by the Ministry of Defense, including the ‘Wounded Person Card’.”

Now, it is sufficient for a medical worker to record the fact of administering the drug in the card of the wounded serviceman. This decision allows:

  • to legally use powerful analgesics during the evacuation of the wounded;
  • to avoid unnecessary paperwork in the difficult conditions of shelling;
  • to promptly account for used ampoules according to military procedures.

New powers for the Ministry of Defense

The Ministry of Defense has been granted the right to independently establish requirements for the storage, transportation, and use of narcotic substances and precursors. This further adapts the process of providing medical assistance to the needs of the front.
