The Cost of Sugar in Ukraine Increased by Over 1.5% in June 2025

In June 2025, an increase in sugar prices was observed in Ukraine. According to analysts, compared to May, the average price of this product rose by more than 1.5%.

Price Dynamics in the Domestic Market

As of June 19, the average price of sugar in Ukrainian stores was 34.02 hryvnias per kilogram. In May, this figure was 33.52 hryvnias per kilogram, indicating an increase of 1.55%. The price rise is noted against the backdrop of a general increase in the cost of several staple food products in the country.

In different retail chains, sugar prices vary. For instance, in Novus supermarkets, granulated sugar is offered at an average of 32.99 hryvnias per kilogram, while in the ATB chain, it is priced at 32.90 hryvnias per kilogram. In Silpo stores, this product can be purchased starting from 31.49 hryvnias per kilogram, but this is a promotional price with a discount.

Trends in the Global Sugar Market

Global sugar prices are showing an opposite trend. According to specialized portals, on June 18, July futures for raw sugar fell by 1.6% to $0.1582 per pound. This is the lowest level in over four years, since April 14, 2021.

It is noted that sugar has been actively decreasing in price since its peak in mid-March. This was supported by forecasts for increased sugar supplies from India and Thailand, which are among the largest producers and exporters of the product in the world.

Thus, against the backdrop of falling global sugar prices, the domestic market in Ukraine is showing an increase in the cost of this product for consumers.
