Duration of Winter and Temperature Characteristics
According to observations from the combined hydrometeorological station in Kyiv, this year’s meteorological winter began on December 24 and ended on February 28. Thus, it lasted for 67 days, which is 25 days shorter than the average multi-year indicators for this period.
“Meteorological spring has arrived in Kyiv, which is within the climate norm.”
Temperature Anomalies in Winter
At the beginning of March, the observatory also reported that the average monthly air temperature in Kyiv during winter was minus 4°C. This is 1.5 degrees lower than the established climate norm for the city. Thus, despite the shortened duration of winter, the temperature regime remained colder than average values.
