Which Networks Will Lose USDT Support
The company stated that the issuance and redemption of USDT on the specified blockchains will be halted. Despite this, Tether will not freeze the smart contracts, allowing users to continue transferring existing tokens between wallets. However, further official support from the company for these networks will be discontinued, distinguishing them from other blockchains where USDT will continue to be supported and developed.
Previously, in July 2024, there were discussions about a complete shutdown of USDT on these networks, including the freezing of smart contracts. However, after discussions with cryptocurrency communities, the company decided to change its approach and provide users with more flexibility.
Reasons and Future Plans for Tether
The company explained that this decision aligns with its strategy to focus efforts on ecosystems with the highest developer activity, scalability, and stable user demand. This is expected to facilitate more effective project development and improve service quality standards.
“Tether remains committed to a smooth transition and will continue to engage with the community to ensure transparency and clarity throughout this process,” the statement reads.
At the same time, Tether announced the launch of USDT on the RGB protocol, which will allow the stablecoin to be integrated directly into the Bitcoin ecosystem. This solution expands users’ options for storing and using USDT in wallets alongside BTC. According to Tether’s CEO Paolo Ardoino, “the network of the first cryptocurrency deserves a native stablecoin.”
