The European company European Waterways has released the results of its study identifying the most romantic countries in Europe. Analysts evaluated countries based on criteria such as the number of romantic and elite restaurants, the presence of Michelin-starred establishments, the number of high-rated wine bars, the availability of tours and wine tastings, as well as the number of vineyards.

Switzerland Tops the Ranking of Romantic Destinations
According to the assessment, Switzerland has earned the title of the most romantic country in Europe, surpassing France, which is traditionally considered the benchmark of romance. Switzerland scored 269 points, while France came in second with 250 points. Croatia took third place (244 points), followed by Italy (200 points) and the Netherlands (167 points).
“For many years, France has been regarded as the pinnacle of romance, home to enchanting cities like Paris, Bordeaux, and Carcassonne. However, recent data indicates a shift in the rankings,” noted the experts.
Luxurious Resorts and Unique Experiences for Couples
The study emphasizes that Switzerland offers unparalleled conditions for a romantic getaway thanks to its luxurious resorts, including the Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski in St. Moritz, The Woodward in Geneva, and the Mandarin Oriental Palace Luzern in Lucerne. These hotels are renowned for their high level of service, spa treatments, exclusive rooms, and a special atmosphere that fosters a cozy retreat for lovebirds.
Greece and Italy are also highlighted in the list, focusing on romantic spots such as Santorini, the Amalfi Coast, and Positano. However, even if a trip to France is already planned, experts advise not to worry — the country still remains one of the best destinations for couples.
