US Strengthens Air Defense in the Middle East Due to Threat from Iran

The Pentagon is taking steps to bolster air defense in the Middle East to enhance the security of Israel, Arab partners, and American troops in the region amid the potential escalation of conflict with Iran. American officials note that an airstrike against Iran is not inevitable, but preparations for a possible response are ongoing.

Deployment of THAAD and Patriot Systems at Strategic Locations

President Donald Trump has ordered preparations for a strike against Iran, which could provoke a proportional response from Tehran. To strengthen defense capabilities, the US is deploying an additional THAAD missile defense battery and Patriot systems at military bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. The THAAD system is capable of intercepting ballistic missiles outside the atmosphere, while the Patriot is effective against targets at lower altitudes.

The deployment of THAAD is indicative of the seriousness of US preparations, as there are only seven such batteries in the United States. Over the past summer, these systems have already provided protection for Israeli cities against Iranian attacks.

Position of Arab States and the Situation in Iran

The rising tension between the US and Iran is causing concern among Gulf countries. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have stated that they will not allow their airspace and territory to be used for attacks on Iran, seeking to avoid corresponding strikes from the Iranian side.

According to American intelligence, the Ayatollah regime in Tehran is in its weakest position since the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Despite the waning of mass protests, the internal political crisis and economic difficulties in Iran remain acute.

“Iran claims it is ready for ‘fair’ negotiations, and the President of the United States is also speaking about the possibility of a diplomatic solution.”

The US has already increased its naval presence in the region: currently, six American destroyers, one aircraft carrier, and three coastal combat ships are stationed off the shores of the Middle East. The military tension is accompanied by diplomatic statements expressing readiness for negotiations.
