Experts note that the prices and supply of strawberries in Ukraine have significantly increased due to the cool spring. Currently, strawberry prices have reached high levels. According to Tetiana Popovych, head of the marketing department at the wholesale agricultural market “Shuvar” (Lviv), “As of the third decade of May, prices for Ukrainian strawberries range from 120 to 144 UAH/kg. In comparison, last year during the same period, the average price was 98 UAH/kg, which means an increase of 22-30% depending on the region and supply volumes.”

According to the expert, high prices are due to the cool spring. “Frosts in April and temperatures below normal in May delayed the season by at least two weeks. As a result, there are fewer early strawberries on the market, and prices are higher,” she adds.
Imported and Ukrainian Strawberries in the Market
Currently, Ukrainian strawberries dominate the Lviv market, with the first batches mainly coming from Transcarpathia. Imported berries are also available, particularly from Turkey, Greece, and Spain.
Forecasts for the Near Future
The peak strawberry season in Lviv is expected at the end of May to the beginning of June. If the weather in Ukraine is favorable, prices may decrease to the level of 80-100 UAH/kg. However, experts do not expect significant price reductions, as the harvest has decreased, and costs for cultivation and logistics have increased. The main volumes of berries are expected to appear in Lviv markets in the first half of next month.
