This week in Ukraine, a decrease in wholesale prices for garden strawberries (strawberries) from local producers has been recorded. The main reason for this trend is the increase in the supply of berries from farms in the western regions, which has intensified competition in the market.

Price Changes for Strawberries and Market Impact
Despite the decrease in prices, the demand for strawberries remains low, forcing farmers to gradually lower prices for perishable products. Just last weekend, greenhouse strawberries were sold for no less than 200–260 UAH/kg ($4.52–5.88/kg). However, at the beginning of the current week, when farmers in the southern and western regions began mass harvesting of berries from film greenhouses, wholesale prices sharply fell by 14% — to 170–230 UAH/kg ($3.84–5.20/kg).
“However, at the beginning of the current week, when the southern and western regions started harvesting this berry from film greenhouses, wholesale prices immediately dropped by 14% – to 170-230 UAH/kg ($3.84-5.20/kg),” the report states.
Current Situation and Market Prospects
Despite the price decrease, strawberries in Ukraine currently cost on average 32% more than during the same period last year. Experts note that the volumes of local berry supply have not yet reached their peak: a more massive harvest is expected at the beginning of June, which may lead to further changes in the market.
It is worth noting that a decree from the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture No. 5639 has come into effect in Ukraine, which approves lists of agricultural products with a limited shelf life and special storage conditions. This may affect the logistics and storage of fresh strawberries in the country.
