Funding of the Strategic Reserve and Preparation for Winter

The available budget for the reserve currently amounts to 197 million euros. Thanks to these funds, Ukrainian energy companies will have the opportunity to create stockpiles of equipment that will be used during preparations for the upcoming heating season, as well as in the process of restoring infrastructure in case of damage.

“The available budget for the reserve currently stands at 197 million euros. Through this mechanism, Ukrainian companies will be able to accumulate energy equipment for the next winter and then, if necessary, use the formed stockpiles for repairs,” wrote Shmyhal.

Partnership with the EU and International Support

During meetings in Brussels, Ukraine coordinated with international partners the financial needs for preparations for the next winter, which are estimated at 5.4 billion euros. Negotiations took place with representatives of the European Commission, including Kaia Kallas, Marta Kos, and Dan Jørgensen, as well as with colleagues from other countries. The main topics were the restoration and protection of energy facilities, ensuring the necessary equipment for repairs, and sanctions against Russian energy resources.

Contributions from international partners to the Energy Support Fund have already exceeded 1.87 billion euros. Additionally, during the second ministerial meeting of the Ukraine Energy Coordinating Group (“Energy Ramstein”), which took place in Brussels, a call was made to allocate 5.4 billion euros from a broader financial support package of 90 billion euros to implement urgent and medium-term priorities for Ukraine’s energy sector.
