WtE Technology: Korean Experience for Ukrainian Infrastructure
The plant will operate using WtE (waste to energy) technology, which allows for the conversion of household waste into electricity and heat, while complying with Ukrainian legislation. As the official noted, the project is based on the Korean approach, and the waste incineration plant in Warsaw, built by the Korean side, serves as an example for Odesa.
“As a reference project, we take the waste incineration plant in Warsaw, which was built by the Korean side,” added the official.
Advantages and Additional Initiatives
The construction will take between three to five years. Among the main functions of the new facility are: incineration of residual household waste after sorting, production of electricity and heat, reduction of waste landfill volumes, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and recycling of ash and slag into building materials.
South Korea will provide comprehensive support for the project through the EDCF fund, including technical, engineering, and financial assistance. Concurrently, the modernization of the site at the Dalnytski quarries is planned in Odesa, where waste sorting and production of RDF fuel (alternative fuel from waste) will be implemented.
