US Shoots Down Iranian Drone Near USS Abraham Lincoln Aircraft Carrier in the Persian Gulf

Destruction of the Drone and US Actions

According to US Central Command, the Iranian Shahed-139 drone approached the American aircraft carrier with unknown intentions. The American military assessed it as a potential threat, prompting an F-35C fighter jet stationed on board the USS Abraham Lincoln to take off and open fire on the drone. The drone was destroyed. According to US Navy Captain Tim Hawkins, neither the ship’s crew nor the equipment were harmed during the incident.

“The aircraft opened fire in self-defense to protect the ship and its crew,” stated Captain Tim Hawkins.

Iran’s Reaction and Impact on Oil Markets

The Iranian side has not officially commented on the incident. Meanwhile, the Iranian news agency Tasnim only reported a loss of contact with its own drone in international waters, without disclosing further details. This event immediately impacted global energy markets—oil prices rose by more than one dollar per barrel, which is attributed to the risks of further escalation in this strategically important oil region.
