If negotiations with Iran fail, the United States is preparing a comprehensive military plan that includes both large-scale airstrikes and the deployment of ground forces in response to a potential blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. According to American officials, preparations are being made under several scenarios, but President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision.

Possible US Actions Regarding Iran
The Pentagon is currently developing four key scenarios that could be implemented in the event of further escalation:
- Executing an invasion or blockade of Kharg Island, which is the main point for exporting Iranian oil;
- Striking Larak Island, which plays a strategic role due to the presence of military facilities, bunkers, and radar systems;
- Establishing control over Abu Musa Island and two smaller islands that are under Iranian control but also claimed by the United Arab Emirates;
- Blocking and seizing vessels transporting Iranian oil through the eastern part of the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition, the US is developing a plan for a ground operation on Iranian territory aimed at protecting stocks of highly enriched uranium at key nuclear facilities. As an alternative, massive airstrikes on these facilities are being considered to limit Iran’s access to nuclear materials.
Donald Trump’s Position and Iran’s Response
Currently, the White House emphasizes that President Trump has not yet made a final decision regarding the initiation of military operations. According to sources, most scenarios involving ground forces remain hypothetical; however, if negotiations fail, the president is prepared to take decisive action. A strike on Iran’s energy infrastructure is viewed as a potential first step. In response, the Iranian side has stated its readiness to launch large-scale retaliatory strikes against targets in the Persian Gulf.
“A strike on Iran’s energy infrastructure could be the first such step. In response, Iran promises to retaliate with large-scale attacks throughout the Persian Gulf.”
Discussions in Washington regarding potential scenarios threaten to prolong and deepen the conflict, as a significant portion of the world’s oil transit passes through the Strait of Hormuz.
Preparations by Both Sides for Possible Escalation
According to American intelligence, Iran has already begun to deploy additional forces and air defense systems to Khark Island and is setting traps in preparation for a possible invasion. Furthermore, the US is considering redirecting part of the military aid intended for Ukraine to the Middle East. This includes, in particular, missiles for the Patriot air defense systems that were ordered under the PURL program to meet Ukraine’s urgent needs.
