Shmyhal thanked the European Union for its support, particularly for the initiative to allocate 40 billion euros to strengthen military assistance to Ukraine. He noted that during the discussion, the urgent defense needs of the country were emphasized.
“I stressed the importance of purchasing 2 million artillery shells for Ukraine. I highlighted the significance of implementing the ReArm Europe plan, as well as the prompt launch of the SAFE instrument, which amounts to 150 billion euros,”
the head of government stated.
Shmyhal emphasized that an important element of the SAFE instrument is the opportunity for Ukraine to join joint procurement of defense products with EU countries, both in the European market and with Ukrainian companies.
Additionally, the parties discussed the continuation of strengthening the sanctions policy against Russia.
“Together with Ms. Kaia Kallas, we reaffirmed our joint position: no peace without justice. We emphasize that efforts for a just and lasting peace must be based on the principles of ‘nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine’ and ‘nothing about Europe without Europe.'”
It is worth noting that the day before, the head of the EU’s foreign policy service, Kaia Kallas, announced that the bloc would provide Ukraine with over 2 billion euros in revenue from frozen Russian assets.
