Changes in the Market for New and Used Cars
The share of gasoline cars in the primary market also decreased: a year ago, it accounted for 43% of all new cars sold, but this figure has now dropped to 37%. The leader among new gasoline cars remains the Hyundai Tucson crossover – over six months, Ukrainians purchased nearly 900 units of this model. In second place is the Mazda CX-5, while the Skoda Octavia holds the third position. The top five also includes the Renault Duster and Suzuki SX4, each with over 500 units sold.
In the secondary market for used gasoline cars imported from abroad, the situation proved to be more stable. In the first half of 2025, Ukrainians cleared customs for 53,100 such cars, which is only 3% less than in the same period of 2024.
Most Popular Models and Influencing Factors
Despite the overall decline, the popularity of certain models in the used car market remains high. The most in-demand models were the Volkswagen Golf (3,741 units), Audi Q5 (2,670), Volkswagen Tiguan (2,561), Nissan Rogue (2,379), and Skoda Octavia (1,877).
“Experts explain the deeper decline in the new car segment by several factors, including high sales levels in 2024, a wider selection of hybrids, and difficulties in supplying certain models.”
Regarding the structure of imports, the share of gasoline cars also decreased from 48% to 47%. In the secondary market, stable supplies from the USA and European Union countries play a key role, where gasoline cars traditionally have demand among buyers.
