Salaries in Technical Professions Rise Due to Labor Shortage in Ukraine

The Ukrainian labor market is experiencing an increasing shortage of specialists in technical and skilled trades. Despite a rise in job offers, the number of people willing to work in these fields is steadily declining. Employers are increasingly willing to hire candidates even without experience, offering them competitive conditions.

Rising Demand and Decreasing Candidates

As of November 2025, there are approximately 10,000 open technical vacancies on the popular job portal Work.ua. However, in recent years, the number of candidates for each job offer has decreased by 2.5 times compared to January 2022. This decline is significantly steeper than the average across the labor market. The shortage is particularly noticeable among men: there has been a 27% decrease in the number of active male candidates compared to the end of 2022, despite the increase in salary levels in these sectors.

Women remain underrepresented in technical professions. Even with training programs and courses that companies create to attract women, their participation has hardly changed. The share of women among candidates for technical positions is only 3–5%.

Salaries and Candidate Motivation

The average salary level in technical and skilled trades currently reaches about 33,000 hryvnias. This is more than a third higher than the national average of 26,000 hryvnias. Nevertheless, experts note that modern job seekers increasingly value stability, official employment, opportunities for training, the availability of a benefits package, and the convenient location of the office or production site.

“The number of candidates for one of these positions has decreased by 2.5 times since January 2022. This decline is happening faster than the overall labor market.”
