After another attack by Russian troops on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Mykolaiv regions were left without electricity this morning. The energy system operator notes that the cause was drone strikes and artillery fire.

“As a result of Russian drone attacks and artillery strikes, there are new power outages in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Mykolaiv regions this morning.”
Repair work continues despite danger
In regions where the security situation allows, energy workers are conducting emergency recovery operations. Some settlements remain without electricity due to adverse weather conditions: rain and gusts of wind have damaged power lines in six villages of the Zakarpattia region. Local crews are already working to eliminate the consequences of the bad weather.
Increase in electricity consumption and recommendations for citizens
According to energy workers, the level of electricity consumption increased by 3.5% this morning compared to the previous day. The main reason is the cloudy weather in the western and central regions, which reduces the efficiency of home solar power plants. This forces an increase in the use of electricity from the general grid.
Experts advise consumers to plan the use of powerful electrical appliances during the most active operation of solar stations — from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and also to limit the load on the grid in the evening to avoid overloading the system.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has systematically attacked Ukraine’s energy sector. The shelling became particularly intense in the fall of 2025, when the growing generation deficit led to mass power outages. The restoration of solar power plants in the spring allowed for a partial reduction of electricity supply restrictions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly emphasized that Russian troops aim to break the country’s energy system. The Security Service of Ukraine considers such strikes as crimes against humanity. Despite the Russian Federation’s statements about allegedly not interfering with civilian infrastructure, strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities continue.
