On April 3, a Russian Su-30 fighter jet crashed in temporarily occupied Crimea. The incident was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, noting that the aircraft went down around 11:00 Moscow time during a training flight. It was stated that there was no ammunition on board at the time of the accident.

During the flight, the crew of the fighter jet was able to successfully eject. Following this, the pilots were promptly evacuated by ground search and rescue services. According to Russian military sources, there is no threat to the pilots’ lives. Ukrainian military officials have not yet reported the destruction of an aerial target over Crimea.

Series of Aviation Accidents in Crimea

This crash is not the first incident of military aviation loss for Russia in recent times. Recently, a military transport aircraft, An-26, also crashed in Crimea while performing a scheduled flight. There were 29 people on board — six crew members and 23 passengers. All those on the aircraft perished.

According to media reports, among the casualties in the An-26 crash may have been Lieutenant General Alexander Otroshenko, who had been leading the mixed aviation corps of the Russian Northern Fleet since 2024.
