Russia Intensifies Strikes on Ukraine’s Railway Infrastructure – Up to Six Attacks Daily

Russian forces have significantly increased attacks on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure, particularly targeting rolling stock. Since the beginning of March, 18 strikes on “Ukrzaliznytsia” facilities have been recorded, averaging six attacks per day. To carry out these bombardments, Russia is using unmanned aerial vehicles, including FPV drones.

Increase in Damaged Facilities

According to the company’s data, since the start of the month, 41 railway infrastructure facilities have been damaged, including 17 units of rolling stock. The enemy’s strikes are affecting not only locomotives and freight cars but also specialized repair equipment, passenger cars, and depots.

“Since the beginning of March, 18 strikes have already been recorded – averaging six per day. The terrorist state is using UAVs and FPV drones for this purpose,” the report states.

A significant portion of the attacks occurs near the front line. Russian forces are particularly focusing on strategically important bridges.

Operational Measures and Passenger Safety

In the morning in Mykolaiv, an enemy drone attacked a passenger car. Thanks to the promptness of the monitoring group from “Ukrzaliznytsia,” which timely detected the threat, passengers were evacuated, preventing casualties. During the attack, a train observer was injured; however, there were no injuries among the passengers.

Additionally, the evening before, Russian forces attempted to attack a passenger train on the Dnipro-Kovel route with a drone. As reported by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba, railway workers promptly implemented safety protocols: the train was stopped, passengers were evacuated, and the enemy drone hit just a few meters from the locomotive. Thanks to these actions, injuries among people were avoided, after which the train continued its journey.

Despite the constant terrorist pressure, “Ukrzaliznytsia” continues to monitor the airspace along major routes in cooperation with the military, responding swiftly to threats, altering train routes, and taking all possible measures to ensure passenger safety and maintain transport connections with frontline regions.
