Revenue Growth and Download Numbers
According to analytics data, from May 2023, iOS and Android users have spent approximately $2 billion on the ChatGPT mobile app. This is 30 times more than the total spending on competitors — Claude, Copilot, and Grok. In the first seven months of 2025, the app generated $1.35 billion, which is a 673% increase compared to the same period last year, when revenue was $174 million.
The app’s average monthly revenue is $193 million, which is $25 million higher than the figure from a year ago. The average revenue per installation worldwide is $2.91, while in the U.S., this amount reaches $10, with the American market accounting for 38% of total revenues.
The number of ChatGPT downloads has exceeded 690 million, with 318 million occurring in 2025 — this is 2.8 times more than from January to July 2024. India leads in the number of installations (13.7%), while the U.S. accounts for 10.3% of the total downloads.
Comparison with Competitors and Market Dynamics
The competitor app Grok has earned only $25.6 million since the beginning of the year, which is 1.9% of ChatGPT’s revenue. The monthly download growth for ChatGPT was 180%: from 16 million in January-July 2024 to approximately 45 million in the same period of 2025. Germany has become the second-largest revenue market after the U.S., accounting for 5.3% of total user spending.
“Since the beginning of 2025, the app has generated $1.35 billion, which is 673% higher than the figure for January-July last year ($174 million)”.
ChatGPT’s revenue is generated not only from corporate subscriptions and APIs but also due to the high popularity of the mobile version among mass users. The success of ChatGPT is also attributed to the launch of Grok by xAI without a mobile version in November 2023. The Grok app for iOS only appeared in January 2025, and for Android in March, which affected the competitor’s lag.
It was previously reported that OpenAI introduced a new AI model, GPT-5.
