Restoration of Kyiv’s CHPs After Russian Attacks is Possible – Nahornyak

Current Status of Work at Kyiv’s CHPs

Currently, at one of the thermal power plants that suffered the most hits from Russian missiles and drones, emergency recovery work is still ongoing. According to Serhiy Nahornyak, these measures are primarily aimed at launching the facility rather than fully restoring the site.

“There are still questions regarding one of the CHPs in Kyiv, which experienced the highest number of hits from Russian missiles and drones. Recovery work is still ongoing there. These efforts are aimed at launching the thermal power plant. Full restoration is not being discussed at this time, as it requires both resources and time,” – explained Serhiy Nahornyak.

Prospects for Full Restoration of Energy Facilities

The MP emphasized that the complete reconstruction of the capital’s energy facilities is a complex and lengthy procedure. Special difficulties arise during the repair or replacement of equipment at the “Ukrenergo” substations, as this process can take several weeks or months due to high costs and a shortage of necessary components.

Serhiy Nahornyak noted that currently, Ukraine does not have a sufficient stock of all necessary equipment, which complicates the rapid restoration of damaged infrastructure after the massive shelling by Russia.

At the same time, the MP stressed that reports about the alleged complete irreparability of one of Kyiv’s CHPs are not true. All capital thermal power plants are subject to restoration.
