In Ukraine, the duration of work experience plays a key role in determining the right to retire and the amount of pension payments. Specifically, 37 years of experience is sufficient for pension eligibility at the age of 60 for both men and women in 2025.

How is the pension calculated with 37 years of experience
The amount of the pension depends not only on the number of years worked but also on the level of salary. The Pension Fund uses a special formula to calculate the amount of payments:
- individual salary coefficient (ISC), which determines the ratio of the individual’s average salary to the average salary in the country;
- insurance experience coefficient (IEC), which equals the number of years of experience multiplied by 1%;
- the average salary in Ukraine over the last three years, as determined by the Pension Fund of Ukraine.
For example, if the average salary of the future retiree was 8,000 UAH, and the national average was 15,057.09 UAH, with 37 years of experience, the pension would be calculated as follows:
8,000 UAH / 15,057.09 UAH × 0.37 × 15,057.09 UAH = 2,960 UAH.
If the salary was 12,000 UAH, then the pension would be about 4,440 UAH.
Minimum guarantees and additional payments
It is important to consider that there are legally established minimum pension amounts. For individuals with full experience (30 years for women and 35 years for men) and aged 65 and older, the pension cannot be less than 40% of the minimum wage. In 2025, this amounts to 3,200 UAH (based on a minimum wage of 8,000 UAH).
There are also minimum payment standards established by Cabinet Resolution No. 185, including:
- 2,725 UAH – for non-working retirees regardless of experience;
- 3,370 UAH – for retirees aged 65 to 70 with full experience;
- 2,980 UAH – for individuals with Group I disabilities up to 70 years with full experience;
- 3,240 UAH – for retirees aged 70-80 with full experience;
- 3,370 UAH – for retirees over 80 years with full experience (20 years for women, 25 for men).
If the calculated pension is less than the guaranteed state minimum, it will be increased to the established minimum.
“Additionally, for each year of additional experience (i.e., more than 30 years for women and 35 years for men), 1% of the pension amount is added, but not more than 1% of the minimum pension (which is 23.61 UAH). Thus, the supplement for 37 years of experience will be 47.22 UAH”.
Thus, 37 years of work experience allows Ukrainians to retire at 60 without deferrals, and the amount of payments depends on individual salary indicators and insurance experience.
