Putin Approved Trump’s Trade Initiatives and Awaits New Negotiations

Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of Russian President Vladimir Putin and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, expressed a positive assessment of the new tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. He noted that the leaders of the countries affected by these trade measures are “lining up” to discuss cooperation with the American leader.

In his statement on the social network X, Dmitriev emphasized that the introduction of new tariffs demonstrates Trump’s leadership. “It would be easy to ignore the ballooning debt of over $30 trillion and the growing trade deficit, as previous presidents have done. Just passing this problem onto future generations. But Trump is taking bold steps to stop the bankruptcy of the U.S., bring back jobs, stimulate investment, and revive the economy. That is leadership,” he stated.

Dmitriev also added that the countries affected by the new tariff rates are eager to forge new agreements with Washington. “Leaders of the countries impacted by the new U.S. tariffs are lining up,” he noted.

It is worth recalling that on April 6, Dmitriev spoke about the possibility of new negotiations between Russia and the U.S., noting that Moscow is noticing “the first respectful steps from Washington.”
