All regions of Ukraine are preparing for hourly power outages for households and industrial consumers on Wednesday, December 24. These measures have become necessary due to damage to energy facilities as a result of massive missile and drone attacks by the Russian Federation.

Reasons for Restrictions and the Situation in the Energy System

According to the company “Ukrenergo”, the implementation of restrictions is related to the need to stabilize the energy system after another attack by Russia that occurred on December 23. As a result of this attack, emergency power outages were introduced in several regions, including Kyiv. The Ministry of Energy reported that three regions were left without electricity following the attack.

Energy expert Hennadiy Ryabtsev notes that Ukrainian nuclear power plants, which had to reduce electricity production due to strikes from the Russian Federation, will be able to return to full capacity only in a week. He predicts that in the near future, most regions will have outage schedules that will cover 3-4 shifts, meaning being without electricity for up to 16 hours a day.

Outage Schedules and Consumer Advice

The volumes and duration of outages for each region will be communicated by local energy companies. “Ukrenergo” urges citizens to follow updates on the official pages of their regional energy companies to find out when outages may occur at their addresses.

“The time and extent of outages at your address – find out on the official pages of the energy company in your region,” the message states.

Energy workers emphasize the need for economical use of electricity during supply hours to help stabilize the system.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the DTEK company has already published the schedule for December 24: consumers in most shifts are planned to experience power outages three times throughout the day. For residents of the region, this means being without electricity for more than 10 hours.
