Polygon PoS Network Experiences Outage: No Blocks Produced for Over Two Hours

On the Polygon PoS network, a significant technical failure was recorded on July 30, 2025 — for more than two hours, no new blocks were produced, raising concerns among users and node operators.

This is reported by Finway

Reasons for the Block Production Halt

The incident is likely related to the Heimdall v2 hard fork, which was implemented in early July 2025 to address technical debt and update outdated code. According to users, the last processed block was numbered 74592238 and was added to the blockchain approximately two hours ago. At the time of writing, no new blocks had been created.

The official Polygon team has not yet provided public comments regarding the cause of the outage, which has caused outrage within the community.

“For the most part, this went unnoticed as it is hardly used outside of Polymarket, but the last block on @0xPolygon was produced about 50 minutes ago”.

Community and Operator Reactions

A message from a team member appeared on the official forum regarding the release of an updated version of the Heimdall v2 hard fork — v0.2.16. The publication states that this update should address a critical vulnerability that caused the halt in block production. Node operators were advised to update their software as soon as possible.

At the same time, some community members reported that the issue might have arisen only on one of the RPC nodes, while the network as a whole was functioning correctly. However, the lack of prompt response from developers on official pages sparked a wave of criticism among users.

It is worth noting that the Heimdall v2 hard fork was deployed to enhance the security and stability of the Polygon network, as well as to eliminate outdated code that could pose a potential threat to the operation of the blockchain.
