Poland and the USA: LNG Supplies and Nuclear Energy Development

During a meeting with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced Warsaw’s strategic plans to secure liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from the U.S. to Ukraine, as well as the development of nuclear energy in the country.

Tusk emphasized that Poland is one of the leading investors in Europe’s gas infrastructure and is a significant importer of American LNG. “We are making Poland and Europe independent from Russian gas supplies. Perhaps, thanks to Polish-American cooperation, and this is also what we discussed, we will be able to ensure gas supplies for Ukraine,” the Prime Minister noted.

Cooperation in Nuclear Energy

Furthermore, Tusk highlighted that cooperation with the new American administration in the field of nuclear energy has gained “new momentum.” In particular, a “new and better agreement” has been signed regarding the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Poland based on the latest technologies. “Polish-American cooperation in nuclear energy is developing “better than ever before, and the parties will not stop there,” he added.

Long-Term Partnership

For his part, Chris Wright emphasized that Washington seeks to establish a long-term partnership with Warsaw, which will be based on “investment partnerships that will anticipate needs for many years to come.” He also assured that the U.S. plans to build even more nuclear power plants not only in Poland but also in other countries in Europe.
