Over 700 settlements in Ukraine left without electricity due to bad weather and drone attacks

As a result of severe weather conditions, over 700 settlements in 19 regions of Ukraine have been left without electricity supply. According to the operator “Ukrenergo”, many regions of the country experienced partial or complete power outages in the morning due to strong winds and thunderstorms. Emergency crews from the regional energy companies are already working to restore electricity supply.

Power outages also due to Russian drone attacks

In addition to the bad weather, power outages have also been caused by attacks from Russian drones. Instances of power outages have been recorded in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kherson regions. Continuous shelling by the Russian Federation is damaging the energy infrastructure, complicating the situation with electricity supply for civilian residents.

“Due to adverse weather conditions (strong gusts of wind, thunderstorms) – as of the morning, over 700 settlements in most regions of Ukraine are fully or partially without electricity. Repair crews from the regional energy companies are already engaged in restoring damaged lines.”

Reduction in consumption and recommendations for the population

According to “Ukrenergo”, as of Monday morning, the level of energy consumption across the country has decreased by 4.2% compared to Friday. This is attributed to sunny weather, which has facilitated the active operation of household solar power plants and reduced the load on the overall energy grids. The operator emphasizes that the significant number of de-energized settlements has also impacted the level of electricity consumption.

“Ukrenergo” advises consumers to shift their active use of electricity to the period of maximum productivity of solar power plants – from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. In the evening hours, it is recommended to use electrical appliances sparingly to avoid overloading the networks.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has systematically shelled Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The attacks have become particularly intense since the fall of 2025, leading to prolonged power outages and the introduction of blackout schedules in many regions. However, with the arrival of spring and the increase in electricity production by solar power plants, these restrictions are gradually being eased.

On March 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Russian forces continue attempts to destroy the Ukrainian energy system by launching new strikes on the infrastructure.
