Onions Prices in Ukraine Have Significantly Increased

For the first time this year, onion producers in Ukraine have substantially raised the wholesale prices for this product. Market experts attribute this to the seasonal depletion of onion stocks in local farms and the rising demand from wholesale companies, according to information from the EastFruit project.

Currently, Ukrainian farmers are willing to sell onions at prices ranging from 14 to 20 UAH/kg (approximately $0.34-0.49/kg), which is on average 55% more expensive than at the end of last week.

Market Shortage and Demand

Despite the price increase, the demand for onions continues to grow due to a sharp shortage of quality products. Most farms have already sold out their stocks, and those who still have onions have halted sales, creating a frenzy in the market and contributing to further price increases.

Price Trends in the Onion Market

Currently, onions in Ukraine are on average 59% more expensive than at the same time last year. Market participants believe that such price trends may persist until the new harvest arrives.
