In occupied Luhansk, a Ukrainian man was sentenced to 13.5 years in prison on charges of espionage

The so-called “Supreme Court” controlled by the Russians in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk has issued a harsh sentence to a citizen of Ukraine. According to the Russian prosecutor’s office, 57-year-old Konstantin Miroshnychenko was sentenced to 13.5 years in a strict regime colony on charges of espionage.

Case Circumstances and Positions of the Parties

The investigation claims that in September 2022, Miroshnychenko allegedly transmitted information about the location of Russian troops in the Svatove district of Luhansk region to Ukrainian special services via an internet messenger. However, as the Russian publication “Mediazona” reminds, in February 2026, the Russian prosecutor’s office mentioned a different time frame for the alleged data transmission – from February to September 2022. Previous statements also referred to the use of mobile communication for transmitting information.

“Miroshnychenko’s positions regarding the accusations are not present in the public space.”

Scale of Persecutions for Espionage in Russia

In December 2025, the human rights project “First Department” reported that the previous year was a record year for the number of sentences in Russia for charges of treason, espionage, and confidential cooperation with foreign citizens. Throughout 2025, Russian courts issued 468 guilty verdicts, with no acquittals recorded.
