Ministry of Defense comments on supply issues for military personnel at the front

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has responded to recent reports of inadequate food supply for servicemen at certain combat positions. According to the agency, there have been instances of improper supply of products to remote positions in the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade, the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade, and the 108th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade. The ministry emphasized that such situations should not become systemic.

Response from the command and personnel decisions

The Ministry of Defense reported that it is working with the General Staff to promptly resolve the issue. In particular, the case in the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Roman the Great has drawn special attention: the Ground Forces commission is conducting an investigation, and the brigade commander has been removed from his position. The agency stressed that those responsible will face legal consequences.

“The Ministry of Defense is working with the General Staff on this issue. The situation in the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade is indicative: the Ground Forces commission is conducting an investigation, the brigade commander has been removed, and the guilty will bear responsibility,” the ministry states.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has instructed the commanders of groupings and corps to conduct an inspection of the supply for fighters on the front line by May 20 to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that false reports about the situation at the positions will have serious consequences for officials.

Causes of the problems and further actions

On April 24, the General Staff reported changes in the command of the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade and the 10th Army Corps following numerous complaints about poor supply for soldiers in the Kharkiv direction. The Joint Forces Group stated that problems with logistics and conditions at the positions are the result of prolonged management errors at the corps level and insufficient interaction with units, calling the situation a “terrible management disgrace.”

After public exposure of supply issues in the 14th Brigade, as well as the appearance of photos of exhausted servicemen in the media, the command of the Joint Forces Group initiated an inspection of the entire management vertical of the 10th Army Corps. This occurred in response to appeals from the relatives of military personnel who reported a critical lack of food and water for fighters in the Kharkiv direction.
