Midjourney Launches First AI Model for Video Generation V1 via Discord

Databricks придбає стартап Neon за $1 млрд для посилення позицій на ринку ШІ-агентів

Midjourney, a renowned developer of generative AI models for creating visual content, has unveiled its first video generation model called V1. This new product allows users to transform a single image into four unique five-second videos, providing new opportunities for creative self-expression.

Features of the V1 Model and Availability

Like other Midjourney tools, the V1 video model is exclusively available through the Discord platform in its web version. Users can upload their own images or use pictures generated by the same AI service. To create videos, a basic subscription costing $10 per month is required, but for unlimited generation in slow mode, Pro ($60) and Mega ($120) packages are available. The cost of creating one video is eight times higher than the price of generating an image on the platform. The duration of the video can reach 21 seconds, and settings include automatic or text animation and the choice of motion intensity.

“Introducing our V1 Video Model. It’s fun, easy, and beautiful. Available at $10/month, it’s the first video model for *everyone* and it’s available now.”

Market Competition and Midjourney’s Development Strategy

The launch of V1 is a response to the active development of the generative video market, where players such as OpenAI (Sora), Runway (Gen-4), Adobe (Firefly), and Google (Veo 3) are already operating. However, unlike its competitors, Midjourney focuses on the interests of the creative community rather than corporate or advertising needs. According to CEO David Holz, the company aims to go beyond simple video content creation and develop AI solutions for real-time simulation of open worlds. The next stage will involve 3D rendering and real-time models.

However, the launch of the video model has occurred amid lawsuits from Disney and Universal, which accuse Midjourney of copyright infringement during image creation. Despite positioning itself as a platform for creativity, the company faces increasing controversies in the field of intellectual property.
