The Disappearance of Arts from the CloneX NFT Project Provoked User Outrage

Користувачі заявили про зникнення артів з NFT проєкту CloneX

Images from the CloneX token collection have disappeared, causing concern among users. The reason for this was a missed payment for cloud services, as well as inadequate preparation for content migration.

The company RTFKT, responsible for the project, announced its closure in December 2024. On the marketplaces OpenSea and Blur, where NFTs from the CloneX collection are traded, the images of the tokens have vanished. The company’s CTO, Samuel Cardillo, confirmed that the failure occurred due to issues with the cloud service.

Users navigating to the token’s page encounter the message:

“This content has been restricted. Using basic Cloudflare services in this manner violates the terms of service.”

This occurred on both OpenSea and Blur. Many users speculated that the company did not pay for Cloudflare services, leading to restricted access to the content.

Cardillo noted that the subscription term for the Cloudflare Pro plan was set to expire on April 30, 2025. However, at the beginning of April, the company’s management decided to switch to a free plan, and the service changed it a few days earlier. The issue could not be resolved quickly, as customer support was unavailable. Currently, the images from the collection, as well as the Animus tokens, are in the process of migrating to the decentralized storage Arweave.

The situation has caused significant outrage in the community, as the collection previously had high demand, bringing substantial revenue to RTFKT:

Be CloneX> Make $81.3M from NFT sales> Get another $37.8M from royalties> Airdrop sneaker coupons> Go silent> Shut down> Don’t pay for servers> Holders left with a broken link and a dream pic.twitter.com/rSWxHrTWte — Pix (@PixOnChain) April 24, 2025

CloneX is a joint project of RTFKT and artist Takashi Murakami. At its launch in early 2022, trading volumes for tokens from this collection reached several million dollars, but demand for them has significantly decreased since then. RTFKT, which is one of the subsidiaries of Nike involved in Web3 projects, announced its closure in December 2024.
