The Japanese investment company Metaplanet has significantly strengthened its position in the cryptocurrency market by acquiring an additional 780 bitcoins for approximately $92.5 million. The average price of one coin during the latest transaction was $118,600.

Metaplanet Solidifies Its Status as One of the Largest Corporate Holders of BTC
Following this purchase, Metaplanet’s total bitcoin portfolio reached 17,132 BTC, which exceeds $2 billion at the current exchange rate. According to the company’s CEO, Simon Gerovich, the average acquisition price for all bitcoins is $101,030 per BTC.
“The company noted that since the beginning of July 2025, its return on bitcoin investments has been 22.5%.”
Profitability Trends and Ambitious Plans for the Future
Metaplanet regularly publishes statistics on its profitability from investments in the leading cryptocurrency. Specifically, for individual quarters, the profitability was as follows:
- July 1 – September 30, 2024 — 41.7%;
- October 1 – December 31, 2024 — 309.8%;
- January 1 – March 31, 2025 — 95.6%;
- April 1 – June 30, 2025 — 129.4%.
Over the past ten months, the company has increased its bitcoin holdings from 398 BTC in September 2024 to over 17,000 BTC in July 2025. This has allowed Metaplanet to become the seventh largest corporate holder of bitcoin in the world.
It was previously announced that by the end of the 2027 financial year, the company intends to increase its bitcoin assets to 270,000 BTC, which could strengthen its position among the leaders in the digital asset market.
