Metaplanet continues its active investments in Bitcoin, expanding its portfolio by 555 BTC, which cost $53.4 million. This deal reinforces the Japanese company’s plans to open a subsidiary in the United States.

The average price per Bitcoin during the latest purchase was $96,134, allowing Metaplanet to control a total of 5,555 BTC worth $481.5 million. The average acquisition cost for the entire portfolio is $86,672.

Investment Returns

According to the company’s report, the returns on investments in the first cryptocurrency are as follows:

  • from July 1 to September 30, 2024 — 41.7%;
  • from October 1 to December 31 — 309.8%;
  • from January 1 to March 31, 2025 — 95.6%;
  • from March 31 to May 7 — 21%.

Additionally, Metaplanet announced the issuance of a new batch of zero-coupon bonds on May 2 and 7, which positively impacted the company’s shares, which rose by 42% over the week.

Market Position

Metaplanet is the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin in Asia and the 11th in the world. The company previously reported its ambitions for expansion into the U.S. market. Bernstein experts predict that by 2029, the total investment volume of commercial counterparties in Bitcoin will reach $330 billion.
