Sanctions Pressure and the Energy Sector
In Melnyk’s opinion, the current measures against Russia are insufficient to achieve the desired effect. He highlighted the importance of blocking Russian energy flows, which remain one of the main sources of funding for aggression. The diplomat stressed that expanding sanctions in this area could significantly impact Russia’s ability to continue military operations.
Support for a New UN Security Council Resolution
In addition to sanctions, Melnyk called on international partners to support the initiative to adopt a new UN Security Council resolution aimed at ensuring a ceasefire. According to him, a consolidated position from the United States, European countries, and other UN members would greatly increase the chances of achieving peace and stability in the region.
“Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andrii Melnyk, called on the US and European partners to strengthen sanctions pressure on Russia, particularly in the energy sector, and to support the adoption of a new UN Security Council resolution regarding a ceasefire.”
Ukraine hopes that the international community can unite efforts to increase pressure on the aggressor and accelerate the end of hostilities.
