Scale of Destruction: Situation in the Regions

According to the Ministry of Energy, the Russian Federation carried out another massive terrorist attack using drones on civilian infrastructure during the night of August 26 to 27. As a result of targeted shelling, energy and gas transportation system facilities have been damaged in six regions of the country.

The most significant consequences have been recorded in Sumy, where around 1:00 AM, equipment at one of the key substations was damaged following a drone strike. Consequently, a substantial part of the city, as well as industrial consumers, were left without electricity.

In Poltava region, Russian troops launched a targeted comprehensive strike on gas transportation infrastructure facilities, resulting in serious damage. Emergency and rescue services are working at the impact sites, making every effort to restore energy and gas supply as quickly as possible.

Assessment of Damage and Response from the Ministry of Energy

Currently, an assessment of the scale of destruction caused by the night shelling is ongoing. Specialists in the energy and gas sectors are working to mitigate the consequences of the attacks and restore resource supply for the population and businesses.

“We consider the Russian attacks as a continuation of the deliberate policy of the Russian Federation to destroy Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure ahead of the heating season. This is yet another act of energy terrorism directed against the civilian population.”

The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that these actions by the Russian Federation exhibit signs of energy terrorism and are aimed at destabilizing the situation in Ukraine ahead of the heating season.
