London to Transfer Frozen Russian Assets to Ukraine and Support Mineral Extraction

The United Kingdom is preparing to transfer approximately £8 billion (equivalent to €9.3 billion) of frozen Russian assets located within its territory to Ukraine. The UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper advocates for the use of these funds, emphasizing the need for coordinated international action.

The UK Supports the Use of Russian Assets for Ukraine

Yvette Cooper expressed her support for the idea of using frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine. According to her, a “coordinated plan” is necessary to achieve results, which will help “send a clear signal to Russia.” The Secretary is also convinced that providing substantial funding could push the Russian Federation towards negotiations.

“Significant funding” for Ukraine could prompt Russia to negotiate.

Ukraine and the UK Expand Cooperation in Geology

Meanwhile, Ukraine and the UK have agreed to prepare a memorandum of cooperation between the British Geological Survey and the State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine. The document will outline the foundations for joint research, information exchange, and the launch of projects in the fields of geology and mining.

Key areas of cooperation include updating geological mapping of Ukraine, identifying priority projects for further work, and preparing joint training programs for Ukrainian geologists. Special attention will be given to creating an effective working mechanism for coordinating projects in critical minerals and ensuring the safe extraction of natural resources.
