Price Increases and Terms for Customers
Gerdau has decided to raise the price for merchant bar quality by $40 per short ton. For specific items, including angles, channels, and flat bars, the price has increased by $60/ton. The updated terms apply to all orders received from April 30. Confirmed orders by the end of the day on April 29 are protected at the old prices, provided they are shipped by May 15.
Nucor Bar Mill Group also announced a similar increase — by $40/ton for merchant bar quality and by $60/ton for certain large structural profiles. The new prices took effect after the close of business on April 29. Orders confirmed by that date remain protected under previous prices if shipped by May 13.
Market Flexibility and Future Prospects
“Both companies note that they reserve the right to adjust pricing policies depending on market conditions.”
Gerdau emphasized the need for ongoing market monitoring to maintain a competitive balance in the industry. Meanwhile, Nucor highlighted that unconfirmed offers may be changed or re-evaluated based on the current steel market situation.
