Klychko revealed how much a ride on Kyiv’s transport actually costs

Even after a possible fare increase for public transport in Kyiv to 30 hryvnias, the system will remain subsidized. This was stated by the city mayor Vitaliy Klychko during a broadcast on the channel “Kyiv-24”.

Cost of transportation and city expenses

According to Klychko, the actual cost of one trip on the Kyiv metro currently amounts to about 60 hryvnias. For surface transport – trams, trolleybuses, and buses – this cost reaches 50 hryvnias.

“The cost is around 60 hryvnias for the metro, and ‘Kyivpastrans’ calculates transport at around 50 hryvnias for a ride on a tram, trolleybus, or bus. Nevertheless, this is almost twice as cheap as the cost of this transport,” he said.

The mayor emphasized that the city authorities allocate approximately 12 billion hryvnias annually for public transport funding. Among the main reasons for the increase in expenses, Klychko cited the rise in fuel and electricity prices, the need to update rolling stock, maintain road infrastructure, and increase salaries for employees.

Discount system for passengers

Vitaliy Klychko also reminded that a discount system for passengers is planned to be maintained when purchasing travel tickets or packages for a large number of trips. This is intended to make using transport more accessible for residents of the capital even with a possible increase in the price of a single trip.
