International donors will direct 100 million euros to the Fund for Supporting Ukraine’s Energy Sector in preparation for the upcoming heating season. These funds are intended to strengthen the resilience of the country’s energy system amid ongoing risks and ensure the completion of important restoration works.

“Contributions to the fund were confirmed during the meeting of the so-called ‘Energy Ramstein’, which took place with the participation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.”
This was announced by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal. During the meeting, partners also agreed to intensify efforts to attract an additional 829 million euros. The additional funding is planned to be directed towards the implementation of identified priority projects and the procurement of critically important equipment for the energy system.
Priorities for Restoring Energy Infrastructure
Among the key areas for using the funds are the restoration of damaged infrastructure, modernization of generation facilities, and enhancing the protection level of energy facilities. Discussions on funding also continued within the Ukraine Energy Coordination Group, where participants emphasized the need for coordinated actions to prepare the energy sector for the winter period – the most challenging time for Ukraine’s energy system.
It is expected that the attracted resources will allow for timely repair works, create necessary reserves, and avoid large-scale disruptions in electricity and heating supply during the heating season.
European Support and Prospects for Further Funding
Ukraine is counting on substantial financial support from the European Union, which could reach up to 90 billion euros. The government emphasizes that maintaining international support is critical for the stability of the country’s energy sector. The contributions of partners such as the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Norway, Canada, the Baltic States, and Northern Europe have been specifically noted. The Secretariat of the Energy Community ensures the coordination of the fund’s work.
At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers acknowledges that even with new funding, additional resources are needed to fully meet the energy sector’s needs. Without new investments, preparations for the next heating season may become complicated.
