The European Union has decided to increase the maximum volume of electricity exports to Ukraine from 2100 to 2300 MW per month. This agreement will come into effect in December 2025. This was announced by the head of the board of NEC “Ukrenergo” Vitaliy Zaichenko during a press conference.

Increase in imports and its limitations
According to Vitaliy Zaichenko, agreements have already been reached with European system operators regarding the increase of available electricity import capacity. This will allow Ukraine, if necessary, to receive greater support from EU partners. At the same time, he emphasized that there are technical limitations to fully utilizing these opportunities. The main reason is the damage to energy infrastructure amid Russian shelling and the limited capacity of the network to transmit electricity to the central and eastern regions of Ukraine.
“For the next month, agreements have already been reached with European system operators to increase the available import capacity to 2300 MW,” noted the company leader.
Energy recovery and prospects for consumers
After the recent massive attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, repair crews are actively working to restore damaged facilities. Vitaliy Zaichenko expressed optimism regarding a reduction in restrictions for consumers in the near future. According to him, improvements in energy supply are only possible if there are no new infrastructure damages due to shelling.
Thus, the increase in the electricity import limit from the EU creates additional guarantees for stable electricity supply in Ukraine, although the full realization of this potential is currently hindered by technical and security factors.
