Hungary Warns of Energy Crisis Risk Due to Refusal of Russian Energy Sources

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto warned of an extremely dangerous situation for the country due to the phased cessation of Russian gas and oil supplies. According to him, these changes create significant vulnerability for Hungary’s energy security.

Legal Resistance to EU Plans

Szijjarto stated that Hungary intends to file a legal complaint against the European Union’s decision to gradually phase out the import of Russian energy sources. Official Budapest is convinced that such steps threaten the country’s stability and its economic interests.

“Hungary is in a very dangerous, vulnerable situation due to the gradual cessation of Russian gas and oil supplies. This is an extremely harmful decision,” Szijjarto noted regarding the EU plan.

Government Position on Ukraine and the EU

Furthermore, the minister emphasized that Viktor Orban’s government will continue to oppose Western funding for Ukraine and will block any potential accession of Ukraine to the European Union. Budapest justifies this position by its own national interests and energy security policy.

It should be noted that on January 26, EU countries finally approved the regulation on the phased cessation of imports of Russian pipeline gas and liquefied natural gas by 2027.

At the beginning of January, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that the European Union would supposedly “fall apart on its own” due to “chaos in leadership.” He also criticized Brussels’ decision to abandon Russian energy sources and emphasized that he has no intention of providing financial support to Ukraine.
